Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is going to be a beautiful Summer day here in the mountains. A high of 89F today? I'm not sure where Spring went. Oh well, there is no rain in the forecast for today so I say enjoy it and go fishing.
Water levels are a bit high but very fishable. You might not be able to get to all the spots you are used to but should still be able to find plenty of places to go. The streamflow gauge is at 2.45 feet or 382 c.f.s. which is above the daily normal of 246 c.f.s. Water temperatures are a warm 60.8 F.
The wind has been blowing pretty hard this morning making casting a bit more tricky. It can make you feel like you are fishing out West.
The light colored dry fly patterns are really starting to work. We heard good things about Smoky Mountain Candy, Neversink Caddis Yellow, Yellow Elk Hair Caddis. Light Cahills should be starting to work well also. Sizes ranging from #12 to #16.
We sold our first Tenkara rod this morning! A Rhodo, which is one that adjusts from 8'10" to 9'9" to 10'6". I think these rods will be a fun addition.
It has been a crazy morning here in the Shop. The guys are still here for the Bamboo Bash. There seems to be a lot of people in Townsend this weekend. Nature photographers, hikers and fisherman are all out in droves enjoying the mountains.
I better get this posted before I have to change the date on it. Tomorrow's will be more prompt. Have a great early to mid-May and thank you for being here with us.
