Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. Days like this is what Spring is all about. Cool mornings changing to pleasantly warm afternoons. Flowers are blooming and the mountains are green.
Water levels are great right now. The streamflow gauge is giving a reading of 2.22 feet or 283 c.f.s. which is just above the daily normal of 260 c.f.s. Water temperatures have dropped for the last couple of days and is now at 56.3F. This cooling trend could make for some slower fishing. Not that the temperature is bad....It is actually really goood right now...but a cooling trend can sometimes put the trout off.
If you head out fishing today or tomorrow morning I would start with nymph patterns. As the day warms switch over to dries. For the nymphs try Pheasant tails, Prince Nymphs, Tellicos or even green weenies. If you are tying on a dry fly give a Smoky Mountain Candy, Parachute Adams or Elk Hair Caddis a try. In the afternoon and later in the day try a yellow sally pattern. Using a larger dry with a nymph dropper is a great way to go.
Today is going to be mostly sunny and highs in the upper 70's or low 80's. Winds are supposed to becalm. You couldn't ask for a nicer day. Rain is coming tomorrow and Friday. The rainfall amounts are much lower now than the weather service was calling for earlier in the week. We could use some light showers to help maintain flows.
The weather this coming weekend looks good at this point. Temperatures are going to cool so I wouldn't store the waders away quite yet.
We got cleaned out of AirLock indicators last week. I never figured they would go as crazy as they did when Byron put them in the email newsletter. There is another large order on its way to us right now. We should be able to get all the backorders shiped out very soon.
If you head out on the water today have a great time and thank you for being here with us.
