Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. We are greated with cloudy skies this morning in East Tennessee. The forecast is calling for clear skies and sun today so we will have to wait and see what happens. Rain isn't expected until Friday, just in time for the weekend.
Fishing should be good in the Smokies today. Water levels are in good shape and the streams have warmed up some. This morning the gauge is giving a reading of 2.37 feet or 345 c.f.s. just a bit higher than the daily normal of 224 c.f.s. Water temperatures are on the rise and this morning we are at 54F.
Anglers who have been heading out to the mountains very early in the day have been experiencing slow fishing. Water temperatures have been cold and trout are lethargic in the cold. As the day warms fishing has been getting better.
If you head out early try nymphs sunk deep. Prince Nymphs, Copper Johns, Squirmy Worms etc. Dry flies are working well in the afternoons. Smoky Mountain Candy, Elk Hair Caddis, Parachute Adams in size #14 - #16 have been good.
I ordered some Tenkara rods for the Shop yesterday. A Sato and an Iwana. I haven't tried fishing with a Tenkara rod yet. Maybe this afternoon is my chance.
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and Greenbrier are still closed from tree debris. Little River Road and Tremont Road are open.
The tailwaters are still out for fishing. Looking at the TVA website it looks like you might possibly be able to sneak in a few hours on the Holston early in the day.
Thanks for reading the Fishing Report and thank you for being here with us.
