Townsend, Tennessee - Fly Fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina

If you do not see today’s Fishing Report, please refresh your browser to empty your cache.

Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:37 am, the temperature is 60.8 degrees.

It will be mostly cloudy today with a high temperature in the low 70’s. We do have a 20% to 30% chance for showers today. Tonight’s low will dip into the high 50’s. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with a high in the low 70’s.

If you are a Smoky Mountains fly fisherman, this is the perfect forecast.

Rain and colder temperatures are on the way next week. Go this weekend if you can.

Little River is flowing at 178 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.97 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 111 cfs. The water temperature is 56.8 degrees.

Fishing conditions are ideal. Flows are good. The water temperature is good. It will be overcast all weekend.

Dry flies or nymphs will work. Watch for a blue wing olive hatch. You may see other aquatic insects on the water.

Brown and brook trout are spawning. Rainbows are active. Avoid stepping in redds. Your feet can destroy a spot where trout have spawned. Watch for clean looking areas, or where females are on the nest.

This is also the perfect weekend for Fly Tyers Weekend. There is a large tent erected behind our shop. There, you can watch fly tyers demonstrating all day today and tomorrow. Admission is Free! Just show up.

The tent is heated, but the heaters won’t be needed. If it rains, it will be dry in the tent. Food can be bought from the folks at Casting For Recovery, inside the shop.

You may need to park off-premises. Someone at the shop can help you find parking spots. I’ll probably park at the bank nearby. We have 50 parking spaces at the shop. Our staff will be parking somewhere else, so they will all be available for attendees.

I have not been involved in planning this event. I think there may be a shuttle for you, but I could be wrong. I haven’t seen the tent. It probably looks like a small house.

Tables and chairs have been rented, and they are set up in the tent. You can sit and watch one fly tyer, then move to another later. As many as 21 fly tyers will be demonstrating at once. Their shifts begin at 9 am and 1 pm.

This is going to be a lot of fun. You don’t have to be a fly tyer to enjoy this event. These folks are fly fishers. They love to talk about fly fishing. Ask questions. Learn from these people, who are donating their time and travel costs to be here for you. They enjoy this too. They get to see friends they have not seen in a while. Many of these fly tyers demonstrate at other fly tying events. They are here from Tennessee and other states.

Check out our new online store by CLICKING HERE. I think this new site is a browsing and shopping experience like you don’t see often. We used the latest software and had it partially re-designed for easier browsing. The menu is something we came up with and had designed by developers in Texas. This is a project with over 2 years in the making. There is some cosmetic work to be done to the site. We'll get on that after this weekend.

We will spend the Winter photographing and adding new gear and flies. We are known for our fly photography. Take a look, and you will see why.

Visit our newly updated fishpondflyfishing.com website by CLICKING HERE. I finished it yesterday. Fishpond has a lot of new gear this year. You will find all the new gear and the complete Fishpond Fly Fishing “2018 Collection” on both sites.

Check out the Grayl water purifiers. Click on the “Learn More” button to the left. This is a water bottle, with a built-in purifier. It’s not just a filter. It is a purifier. We have plenty in the store for sale or you can order from us, online or by calling 865-448-9459 to order. Ground shipping is free.

We have offered Free Ground Shipping on everything we sell for about 20 years. That was rare back then.

We are a Scott Fly Rod dealer now. The first shipment of the new rods just arrived. If you are at the shop this weekend, check them out.

So, enjoy this beautiful weekend if you are here.

Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
