Little River is flowing at 151 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.78 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 130 cfs. The water temperature is 70.2 degrees this morning.
Little River, Little Pigeon River and Cataloochee Creek are rising. Oconaluftee River is not, not yet. I think most Park streams will be rising quickly and soon.
Check the links to Park streams that have USGS gauges, before going fishing today. You can check the Weather Underground Radar for Townsend by CLICKING HERE.
If you go, be aware strong to severe thunderstorms are possible. Flash flooding is a possibility. Falling branches and trees are safety concerns. Roads may close due to downed trees.
If the streams are not blown out this morning, fishing may be good. Dry flies and nymphs will work.
It is 6:10 am. I’m not sure what to expect today. I will probably update this report later.
UPDATE 8:14 AM
The widespread storm that blew through earlier this morning, weakened as it approached the highest peaks in the Park. Presently, there are no rain cells in our immediate area.
Most streams are stil rising in the Smokies, inclluding Little River, Little Pigeon River and Oconaluftee River. Cataloochee Creek has crested. Fishing may be fine in the Park. Or, the streams may continue to rise. Little River is at a fishable level right now.
More rain and possibly strong thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon. That may or may not happen.
You may find stained water if you go now or later. That is something I can't determne.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
