Little River is flowing at 431 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.55 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 85 cfs. The water temperature is 64.9 degrees this morning.
Little Pigeon River at the Sevierville gauge is flowing at 1,250 cfs, compared to median flow for the date of 122 cfs.
Most streams in the Park are flowing above median flow today.
Fishing is good, though some streams may be flowing high. Little River is at a Spring-like flow, but on the high side of good for fishing.
Dry flies may work, but I would start with larger, and weighted nymphs, due to the higher than normal flows. Try a Tellico, Pheasant Tail, Prince, or any rubber legged nymph pattern. Green Weenies are probably working.
If you decide to try dry flies, give a Yellow Stimulator a shot. You may want to try a foam beetle. Dropping a small weighted nymph off your dry fly increases your odds.
You might want to try fishing a trout tailwater today or float through some lower sections for smallmouth bass. Check the TVA website to obtain their generation schedules before you go.
The search continues for a woman hiker, last seen Tuesday near Clingmans Dome. A large search and rescue team is combing the trails and high elevation forest looking for her.
The Townsend Heritage Festival, Blue Ribbon Country Fair and Railroad Days will be well attended today. You will see many folks in town, thanks to the great weather we are having. You can learn more about these events by CLICKING HERE.
According to weather predictions, early through mid-October is going to be much warmer than normal, by almost 10 degrees during the day and more than that at night. September was hot too, way above normal all month.
October is also normally dry, with an average of 2.67 inches of rain for the month. We had that much rain in two days this week, in Townsend.
Rainfall for the year is currently over 8 inches above normal, at the Knoxville Airport.
I wonder what affect that will have on the brown trout spawn.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
