Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:55 am, the temperature outside is 63.0 degrees.
Today will be sunny with only a slight chance for thunderstorms according to the National Weather Service. Tomorrow’s forecast is identical. Weather.com predicts a higher chance for afternoon thunderstorms today through Wednesday. I don’t know which weather service is correct, but October is probably starting out drier than September, which is normal.

Little River is flowing at 307 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.28 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 81 cfs. The water temperature is 64.4 degrees this morning.
All streams in the Park are receding. Fishing conditions are good in all streams that have reporting USGS flow gauges.
Water temperatures have been falling, due to the cooler nights and days. This may allow for good fishing in lower elevations and larger rivers. Look for water temperatures at midday in the mid-60’s or cooler.
Fishing is good, and should be good in all streams in the Smokies today.
Dry flies and nymphs will work. Good dry fly patterns to use now include, Yellow Stimulator, Orange Stimulator, Yellow Neversink Caddis, foam beetles, Parachute Adams, Smoky Mountain Candy and other reasonable patterns.
Nymph choices include, Tellico, Prince, Pheasant Tail, Hare’s Ear, Green Weenie, Pink Weenie and others.
You are gong to notice brown trout and brook trout in spawning colors. You may see more brown trout, out in the open, as they will be spawning soon. This has been a good year for brown trout in the mountains. Most anglers and guides are reporting larger browns and more of them.
Tree colors are changing, with much more vivid color coming soon.
With the expected nicer weather, now is a good time to enjoy fly fishing on the tailwaters, lakes, lowland rivers and mountain streams. I hope the rain does not hold off too long. A fairly wet October would be nice.
The search team, looking for the lost hiker near Clingmans Dome has been expanded. The lady was reported missing Tuesday evening. Clingmans Dome road is closed, for the safety of the rescuers. Search and rescue teams from Great Smoky Mountains National Park have been joined by those from other States and agencies.
Today, the number of searchers is at about 125 people. Helicopters, tracking dogs and drones are helping find this lady. The search area has been expanded. You can read more on the WBIR website by CLICKING HERE.
I hope they find her today, safe.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
