Little River is flowing at 232 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.06 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 109 cfs. The water temperature is 58.6 degrees this morning.
Other streams in the Park are flowing above median flow. You could find some streams slightly stained. The Oconaluftee gauge site has turbidity detection capability. Overnight, there was some staining in the river but it is recovering quickly.
Water temperatures are very good at all gauge sites.
Today may be a perfect day to fish in the Smokies. It should be overcast. Stream levels are excellent. Water temperatures are good in the low to mid elevations. It will be cool and possibly wet.
This will be a very good nymphing day. Try Tellico, Pheasant Tail, Prince or Hare’s Ear nymph patterns. This may also be a good dry fly fishing day, due to the warm water temperatures. I would use a Blue Wing Olive dry fly or emerger, or both, if you see a hatch. Otherwise, I would use an Orange Stimulator or Orange Elk Hair Caddis. You might also consider streamers. Try a Muddler Minnow.
The water temperatures may be falling throughout the day. That can have a negative affect on fishing. The weather forecasters say the temperature will begin falling after noon.
Yesterday was extremely windy. You will likely catch plenty of leaves while fishing. Most all fly patterns work well, catching leaves.
This weekend will be sunny and cool. It is going to be beautiful. The tree colors are more vivid in the low elevations now. I saw a significant change yesterday.
I am editing our Fishpond website. This is one I designed to showcase their products several years ago.
You can visit the website by clicking here, www.fishpondflyfishing.com. This site has been updated with all the new 2019 gear. I do that every year at this time, because the new Fishpond products are available for us to sell in November. Readers can click on the “Learn More” button, and that takes them to that item on our online store, where they can order.
Writing and editing descriptions of gear is not the most fun thing I do.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
