Little River is flowing at 1,170 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.57 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 286 cfs. The water temperature is 50.9 degrees.
Little Pigeon River is flowing at 2,320 cfs, 3.90 feet on the gauge, compared to median flow of 491 cfs.
Tellico River is flowing at 984 cfs, 3.16 feet, compared to median flow of 278 cfs.
Oconaluftee River at Birdtown is flowing at 2,030 cfs, 3.54 feet, compared to median flow of 532 cfs. The water temperature is 48.2 degrees.
Cataloochee Creek is flowing at 511 cfs, 3.74 feet, and that compares to median flow of 107 cfs. The water temperature is 46.9 degrees.
If we did not have so much water, fishing would be good due to the warm water temperatures. The streams will warm further over the next few days. Most streams are flowing too high to safely wade. They will continue to recede, if we do not get much more rain. However, they are receding slowly. The ground is saturated, and leaching water into the streams.
Most of the Park is under a high wind watch tomorrow. That is something to take seriously. A woman hiker died in the Park last week, after a tree fell on her. Her son suffered a broken leg in the incident. She was hiking with her husband and three sons. That is so sad.
You might find a small stream that is fishable. We usually send customers to Anthony Creek at the Cades Cove Picnic Area when the water is high. Wherever you go, be careful wading.
I would use heavily weighted nymphs or streamers and stay next to the bank in safe water.
Evidently, Little River Road from Metcalf Bottoms to the Townsend “Y” is still closed due to downed trees and debris on the road. The Park is running thin on staff because of the shutdown. They may be able to clear the road, or maybe they won’t.
I am working on a new category on our online store, Renzetti Fly Tying Tools. Yesterday I loaded up a rough version that includes 6 Renzetti fly tying vises. I plan to continue working on it today. This takes a lot of time, because I am doing the photography in the studio at the shop. Then, I come home to prepare the photos for the online store. And, I’m shooting a lot of different angles for viewers to see. There are 37 different photos contained in those six vises. I have not spent a lot of time writing descriptions so far, but I will. What you read today may be different later.
My plan is to photograph bobbins and other small tools today, unless I have to place fly tying department orders.
I plan to add a new vise every couple of weeks. And, I’ll be photographing bobbins, hair stackers and many other hand tools for this category. You can see what I’ve done so far by CLICKING HERE. You can order from there or call us at the shop. Ground Shipping is Free.
I think Renzetti closed for the holidays. I ordered some more vises on Christmas Eve, and did not get an e-mail confirmation. I called a few times last week, and nobody was there. Good for them.
Renzetti is one of my favorite companies to work with, mainly because Andy and Lily Renzetti have been my friends for many years. And, I love their vises and tools. They make everything in their Titusville, Florida plant, except for the scissors, which are made in Germany.
I am going to be off tomorrow through Wednesday. Daniel will write the fishing report tomorrow and Wednesday.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
