Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. Happy New Year! It is cloudy in Townsend this morning. The traffic on the road is light as everyone has headed home after the holidays. It will be quiet around here most days....except Saturdays. Saturdays have a lot going on with our Free Fly Tying Demos, regular Fly Tying Classes and our Free Fly Tying 101s.
Some rain is in the forecast for this afternoon and the next couple of days. I would like for it to pass us by.

Little River is flowing at 2.80 feet or 573 c.f.s. This is higher than the daily normal of 310 c.f.s. Water temperatures have dropped down to 51.8 F.
Water levels are workable today. They are still high and you will need to pick your spots. Try some smaller streams like West Prong of Little River. Fishing up Lynn Camp Prong could be an option also.
Nymphs are going to be your best bet. I would fish Prince Nymphs, Tellico Nymphs, Pheasant Tails and Squirmy Worms. #12 - #16. Using a double nymph can be effective. Don't be shy with the split shot.
The Little River Road from the Townsend Y to Metcalf Bottoms remains closed due to trees and other debris. You can access the upper part by going in through the Wear Cove Entrance (Lyon's Spring Road).
Free Fly Tying Demos start next Saturday on January 5th. David and Mellisa Harrell will be here from 10 am till 2 pm. Both are very active with Trout Unlimited. They do most of their fishing on the Clinch so expect some midges. We will be having demos each Saturday till March. Stop by, grab a cup of coffee and get ready to watch some great tyers showing off their craft.
We go live with our new point of sale computer system today. Are we ready? We are as ready as we can be. At this point the only way to do it is to do it. I just did our first sale, pretty sure I did it correctly.
Sorry for the short report. Byron will be back at it tomorrow. Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
