Flows are strong. The streams are rising. More rain is predicted through tomorrow night. You may find stained water at times over the next three days.
Many of the streams are warm, especially for early January.
I would fish the lower elevations where the water is warmer. Be careful wading. Heavily weighted nymphs and streamers will probably do best for you. I would plan on wading very little, stand in safe water near the bank, and high stick your nymphs.
According to the National Park’s Road Twitter page, Little River Road from Metcalf Bottoms to the Townsend “Y” is still closed. I heard yesterday it was open. I don’t know for sure right now. You can check the Roads Twitter page by CLICKING HERE. The Park is short staffed due to the government partial shutdown but they are continuing to update this page.
David and Melissa Harrell will be tying at the shop Saturday, January 5th, between 10 am and 2 pm. This is a free event. All you have to do is show up. They are both avid Clinch River anglers. You will learn about fishing the area tailwaters from them. They will be tying simultaneously at different locations in the shop. Come by Saturday, learn, and enjoy your day.
Have a great one and thank you for being here with us.
