Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. The sun is mostly out this morning here at the edge of the mountains. We are looking to a warm, sunny day with no rain.
The weather forecast for the next several days looks nice. Cooler weather is on the way for later in the week.

The Little River Road from the Y to Metcalf Bottoms is still closed. You can access the upper part of the river and Elkmont Campground by going in the Wear Cover Entrance (Lyon's Spring Road).
Water levels in the Smokies are improving. This morning the gauge on Little River is giving a reading of 2.87 feet or 617 c.f.s. The daily normal for today is 290 c.f.s. The streams are flowing clear.
Water temperatures are improving. This morning the reading near the Park boundary is 49F. The temperature is on a warming trend and this will continue today.
If I was heading to the mountains today I would choose one of the smaller streams. West Prong of Little River, Laurel Creek, Anthony Creek, Forge Creek, or Lynn Camp Prong. These should be fairly manageable despite the higher water flows. The main Middle Prong/Tremont should be good also. No matter where you go you will need to be cautious and try to stay out of the water as much as possible.
Nymphs are going to be your best choice. Prince Nymphs, Tellico, Pat's Rubberlegs and Hares Ears will be good choices. Add enough split shot to get the flies down in the water.
I've talked to several people recently who have been fishing Delayed Harvest Streams around the area. If you have never tried you should put it on your list. When you hit it right the fishing is silly. It can be more like catching than fishing. Of course....trout are trout....and sometimes they don't want to play nice. Check out the links below. The one for Tennessee isn't specific to delayed harvest but has a ton of info about trout here in the State. The North Carolina link gives info about their stocking.

Our new computer system is up and running. We are figuring out all the new features of it. Right now we are re-entering customer's address information when you come in. This is allowing us to make sure we have the most up-to-date info and email addresses. We appreciate your patience in this process.
Some new Spring 2019 Gear will be arriving soon. I saw an invoice for a large shipment from Simms. New waders, boots and packs will be here in a week or so. We are going through "old" styles of some items and are putting them on sale. Come by the Shop and check out the old and new as you get ready for Spring!
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
