Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:13 am, the temperature outside is 29.5 degrees.
Today will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature in the mid-40’s. Showers are likely, mainly after 4 pm. More rain is predicted tonight through Wednesday night and we will be under a flood watch through the period.
Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible, which may cause flooding. The rain will continue over the next few days, through the weekend.
Little River is flowing at 1,130 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.52 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 328 cfs. The water temperature is 46.0 degrees this morning.
Little Pigeon River is flowing at 2,530 cfs or 4.03 feet, compared to median flow of 739 cfs.
Oconaluftee River at the Birdtown gauge is flowing at 1,620 cfs, 3.18 feet, compared to median flow of 574 cfs. The water temperature is 44.2 degrees.
Tellico River at Tellico Plains is flowing at 1,220 cfs, 3.70 feet, compared to median flow of 403 cfs. The current flow is a record for this date.
Cataloochee Creek is flowing at 415 cfs, 3.53 feet, compared to median flow of 139 cfs. The water temperature is 42.4 degrees.
The streams are flowing high and those wading should be very careful. The water is receding now, but more rain is expected. If you go, wade only in safe water near the banks. Watch for quickly rising water this week. Flash floods are possible. The ground is saturated, so additional rain will run off quickly.
I am hoping for the best. We will have to see what happens. Rain amounts could be less than was predicted Sunday and yesterday.
If you are planning to be here this week to fish, you may want to reconsider. The water is probably going to be too high to fish with a fly rod.
