Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:11 am, the temperature outside is 58.5 degrees.
It will be warm today, 70 degrees, with rain showers developing by this afternoon. More rain is expected tonight. Rainfall amounts today and tonight of one half to an inch are possible. Showers and thunderstorms are predicted for tomorrow. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are possible.
Friday, through the weekend will be colder, with highs in the 50’s and lows in the low 30’s. No rain is expected through the period. It will be sunny and nice for Fly Tyers Weekend.
Little River is flowing at 105 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.58 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 80 cfs. The water temperature is 59.4 degrees this morning.
Little Pigeon River is flowing at 271 cfs, 1.62 feet, which compares to median flow for this date of 137 cfs.
Oconaluftee River is flowing at 273 cfs, 1.51 feet, compared to median flow of 202 cfs. The water temperature is 58.3 degrees at the Birdtown gauge.

The streams in the Smokies are flowing well for wading and fly fishing. Water temperatures are good in the low to mid elevations. It will be overcast today, which will be good for fishing. It will not be windy today.
I would fish with nymphs, fished deep. Try a Tellico, Prince, Pheasant Tail or Hare’s Ear. Trout might be rising to dry flies. Watch for a Blue Wing Olive hatch today and tomorrow.
If we get as much rain, according to the high estimates I read this morning, the streams will be flowing high tomorrow and Friday. That may not happen today, but there is a good chance for heavy rain tomorrow. It will be windy at times tomorrow.
Check out the flows on the Clinch River today. You should be able to wade and fish early, depending on where and when you choose to fish on the river. See all the tailwater generation schedules on the TVA website using the links below.
We are holding Fly Tyers Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Tremont Lodge in Townsend. This is a free event. All you have to do is show up. There will be over 50 fly tyers demonstrating in shifts through the weekend. This is going to be a good one. The weather will be nice.
