Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:12 am, the temperature outside is 67.5 degrees.
It rained most of the day yesterday. The Knoxville Airport reported .86 inches while in Townsend, a personal weather station near our home reported 1.25 inches.
More rain is predicted today, with new rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. Some storms could be severe. Localized flooding in the mountains is possible. Strong winds will be likely across the higher elevations, with gusts as high as 45 miles per hour.
We are under a freeze warning tonight with temperatures dropping to the upper 20’s in some areas. The predicted low at Mount LeConte is 26 degrees tonight.
Little River is flowing at 793 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.08 feet on the gauge which is a record for this date. The prior record was 476 cfs, set in 2010. The water temperature is 61.2 degrees this morning.

This is not a good day to be fishing in the Smoky Mountains. The streams are flowing high with most being too high to wade safely. Additionally, more heavy rain is predicted, which may cause localized flooding.
It is going to be windy. Trees may be falling and roads could close in the Park. You can find out if roads are closed by viewing the Park’s Roads Twitter page by CLICKING HERE.
Though this is not exactly a great day to be fishing anywhere, you might consider an area tailwater. Some of our tailwaters have been fishing very well. Check the TVA website from the links below to see if you can work with their generation schedules. Take a rain jacket and rain pants.
The US Drought Monitor will be updated and released at 8:30 am this morning. We will likely see improvement in the Southeast US. Data is collected on Tuesdays, so the rain yesterday will not be considered until next week. You can view the map and read the data by CLICKING HERE. Click on your region, then your state, to see a detailed view and data pertaining to that specific state.
Fly Tyers Weekend begins day after tomorrow. The event is free. All you have to do is show up at Tremont Lodge in Townsend. Over 50 fly tyers will be demonstrating for you in shifts, Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd & 3rd. You can learn more about Fly Tyers Weekend by CLICKING HERE.
