Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. Fly Tyers Weekend is today and tomorrow. It is going to be a busy weekend here at the Shop. Come to Townsend and see some great fly tying. The great ladies from Casting For Recovery are there keeping everyone fed and caffinated.
Water levels in the Smokies are much improved. This morning the gauge is giving a reading of 2.45 feet or 401 c.f.s. The daily normal is 112 c.f.s.
Water temperatures fell all day yesterday. This morning the Little River in the low elevations is 48F.
Fishing will be tough this morning due to the low water temps. Nymphs sunk deep are going to the be best choice. Keep adding weight till you hit bottom. The sun is going to be shining today so that will help the water warm a little. Fishing will be better later in the day.
Nymphs are going to be the best choice today. Fish deep. The cold water is going to have the trout down on the bottom and moving slow. Water levels are still high so be careful while wading. There is also a lot of leaves in the streams. Be care while traversing the banks and especially while wading. Frosty leaves are treacherous and no felt or sticky rubber will help.
Fly Tyers Weekend begins today. The event is free. All you have to do is show up at Tremont Lodge in Townsend. Over 50 fly tyers will be demonstrating for you in shifts, Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd & 3rd. You can learn more about Fly Tyers Weekend by CLICKING HERE.
Parking is up at the Townsend Elementary School. We have rented a vehicle from Mountain Trax here in Townsend. There will be someone driving back and forth from the event to the parking lot to save folks the walk.
There was a fish kill on the Clinch River on Halloween. You can watch the story here at WBIR.com Any time something like this occurs it is a tragedy. The Clinch is a big river and will surely recover but still....never a good thing.
Come on out to Fly Tyers Weekend! There is signs along to road pointing you to where to park. Casting For Recovery is selling food as a fund raiser for the annual retreats.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
