Stream flows are very good. Water temperatures are fine in the low elevations and they will warm further today.
Nymphs will work for sure and dry flies may too. I would fish the lower elevations where the water is warmer.
Watch for spawning brown trout and try not to wade in their redds, to avoid crushing eggs. The spawn has barely begun in Little River and probably other streams in the Smokies.
Fishing is good for stocked trout in Little River, outside the Park. We are seeing photos of some very nice trout being caught. I have not fished the stocked section in many years. When I did, an Olive Wooly Bugger always worked for me. These trout are hungry. This part of the river is temporarily overpopulated.
You may find a suitable generation schedule on your favorite tailwater today. Trout fishing on the tailwaters has been good at times. Check the TVA website from the links below to plan your day.
Larry Barrett, the President of Far Bank is traveling around the region visiting customers. He was at our store yesterday. I spent some time with him. After we met, he went fishing at Metcalf Bottoms before spending the night in Gatlinburg.
You may be wondering, what the heck is Far Bank? Far Bank is a privately held company in Washington state, that owns Sage, Rio and Redington. They are great people to work with. And, they make excellent fly fishing gear.
Their sales representative is Raz Reid. He and his wife Kerry work closely with us, as a sales team, and with other dealers in the Southeast. They live in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They were professional tennis players many years ago. And, they each have a Wikipedia page describing them and their tennis careers. She is listed under the name Kerry Melville or Kerry Melville Reid on Wikipedia.
