Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is a bit gloomy this morning but so far the weather is dry.
Warm weather is coming tomorrow with a high of 60. The next several days are going to be unseasonably warm. Night time lows will be in the 40 to 50's. This is going to cause water temperatures to warm. Rain is coming mid-week. High water will be the only thing keeping us from having great fishing.
This morning the gauge on Little River is giving a reading of 2.33 feet or 319 c.f.s. The daily normal is 305 c.f.s.
If you head out today, nymphs are going to be your best choice. Heavily weighted is going to be the key. Get the flies down to where the trout are. Pat's Rubberlegs, Prince nymphs, Tellicos, Harvey Stonefly, and euro style nymphs will be good. Squirmy Worms have been fishing well also.
In the Smokies, lower elevation streams along the roads would be my choice. Crowds are light so you won't have to fight anyone for a spot. Take advatage of easier to access locations this time of year.
The tailwaters are generating today. I assume that is in preperation for the rain that is forecast this week.
Today is another FREE Fly Tying Demo. Joining us today is Tim Ivey from Georgia and Mike Wallace from Bristol. Tim is tying warmwater flies for smallmouth and bluegill. Mike is tying classic wet flies and soft hackles. They will be here until 2 so come on up to Townsend.
It won't be long now before the Spring hatches begin. Time to organize your fly boxes and dust off the Quill Gordon dries. Warm weather is forecast for next week. We could potentially start seeing hatches very soon.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
