Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:45 am, the temperature outside is 54.0 degrees.
It will be warm today, in the low 70’s with a low tonight around 60 degrees. We have a chance for showers late this afternoon. The chance for showers linger tomorrow. Expect a high of 78 degrees.
Much more rain fell yesterday than was predicted. The Knoxville Airport reported .55 inches while in Townsend, we received .73 inches.

Oconaluftee River is flowing at 1,090 cfs, 2.62 feet, compared to median flow of 637 cfs. The water temperature is 52.5 degrees.
Tellico River is flowing at 573 cfs, 2.35 feet, compared to median flow of 371 cfs.

Many streams are flowing high this morning. Others are not. Most on the Tennessee side of the Park are flowing high. If you go, be careful wading.
I would find a smaller stream or fish a big river from a safe location and use heavily weighted nymph rigs. The water temperatures are excellent right now. Trout are actively feeding.
The lowland rivers are flowing high, limiting wade fishing. Smallmouth bass fishing is fair. Use nymphs and streamers.
Most of the tailwaters I checked this morning cannot be safely waded. I did notice TVA will be cutting back their generation somewhat at Norris Dam later today. Still, I don’t see any good tailwater fishing conditions. We are all hoping for improvement soon.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
