Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:23 am, the temperature outside is 59.2 degrees.
Heavy rain fell last night. The Knoxville Airport reported 1.68 inches while a personal weather station in Townsend recorded 1.36 inches.
It will by mostly cloudy today with a high temperature in the upper 50’s. There is a slight chance for rain this morning. Tonight will be cooler, in the low 40’s. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a high in the mid-60’s. Rain is back in the forecast Sunday night and Monday.

Oconaluftee River is flowing at 1,070 cfs, 2.60 feet, compared to median flow of 678 cfs.

Some streams in the Smokies are flowing very high. You may find some fishable water. The streams all appear to be receding. My only suggestion is to stand in safe water and use nymph rigs. Be careful wading.
For your reference, Little River is considered to be on the high side of good at 2.5 feet. Currently, the river is flowing at almost 3 feet. Six inches does make a difference. The river is wide at the USGS gauge site. Where the river is constricted, the levels will be higher and the flow will be stronger.
I am calling fishing “Fair” because you may find some fishable streams or areas of streams. Water temperatures are good in the low elevations.
TVA and the Corps of Engineers are reducing flows at some dams. This is a good sign of things to come. There are fishing opportunities on some of the tailwaters today, especially if you are boating. Check your favorite rivers and go if you can work with the flows.

That is how we are complying with Federal Guidelines and still keeping our staff working. So far, nobody has been laid off. Actually, our business is not that bad, especially considering the circumstances.
Our open hours have changed to 9 am – 4 pm, seven days a week.
Customers are not entering our building. None of us are showing virus symptoms. We are sanitizing often.
What I am seeing from our team is optimism, cooperation and a “winning spirit”. We all plan to work through this together.
I really appreciate the way you (our friends and customers) are supporting us in many ways. That is essential to us. We want you to go fishing.
I appreciate how our team is willing to change temporarily. We are all thinking out of the box. We are trying hard. Our chins are up.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
