Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:50 am, the temperature outside is 61.7 degrees.
.22 inches of rain fell overnight in Townsend.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely today, mainly late this afternoon and overnight. There is a threat of strong to severe thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail.
There is a lower chance for showers tomorrow. It will be cooler, with a high temperature in the upper 50’s. Thursday will be sunny and cool.
Little River is flowing at 421 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.49 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 272 cfs. The river is rising slowly.
All streams in the mountains that have USGS gauge sites are flowing above normal for this date. At this point, many of the streams are fishable. That may change later today and tonight.
I looked at the generation schedules at a few dams today and did not see any wade fishing opportunities on the tailwaters. Check your favorite tailwaters from the links below to see if you can work with the schedules today.
Lake fishing is probably not a good idea today, due to the chance for high winds later and thunderstorms. You may go early but be prepared to run for the ramp.
Daniel told me yesterday, he and the staff do plan to open tomorrow morning. We are going to limit the number of customers to five, so everyone can practice social distancing. There will be signs on our front doors explaining how this is going to work.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park will open Saturday morning. The first phase will be opening the main roads. Some secondary roads, picnic areas, visitor centers and campgrounds will be closed temporarily.
Fishing will be allowed and access to many streams and rivers will be available to you. I have not heard anything about the upper Tremont Road. But, I have not heard anything to the contrary either. I hope that road will be opened, giving us access to Lynn Camp Prong and Thunderhead Prong.
I am still adding fly tying materials to the new Fly Tying Department on our online store. Yesterday I photographed and added some hair and feathers. You can see the department by CLICKING HERE. Check out the Natures Spirit deer and elk hair. Natures Spirit has beautiful hair. I don’t think I have seen better deer hair, in recent years. I added Polish Quills yesterday too. Polish Quills are stripped and dyed peacock quills. They make beautiful bodies. These quills have been very popular. You may not know we have them.
More materials are arriving from last week’s orders so I will spend the next two days receiving and displaying those items.
We have a lot going on right now, with the shop and the Park opening all in the same week. Some restaurants have re-opened. We have a lot more visitors in town.
We have done well during the past few weeks, by offering curb service and mail order. Of course, we will still be offering those services to you.
We all appreciate your continued support. Thank you so much.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
