Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 5:08 am, the temperature outside is 70.0 degrees.
Light rain is falling this morning. Isolated showers are predicted today with possible thunderstorms this afternoon. The high temperature today will be near 80 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms are likely tomorrow with a high in the upper 70’s. The chance for rain is high every day next week and beyond.
Little River is flowing at 87.7 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.50 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 124 cfs. The water temperature is 68.4 degrees this morning.
Little Pigeon River, Oconaluftee River, Tellico River and Cataloochee Creek are all flowing at or above normal today.
Fishing is good in the Smokies. Fishing will be especially good today due to overcast conditions. Dry flies and nymphs will work. Isolated thunderstorms this afternoon could stain and raise water levels in some streams but the chance is low.
Water levels are low, which is normal. Stealth and presentation is essential to your success. Dress to blend with the forest and stay low.
Lowland river fishing is good for smallmouth bass and other warmwater species in most streams. Again, overcast skies will be beneficial to the angler. Nymphs, streamers, hair bugs, poppers and foam floating flies will work.
There are many tailwater fishing opportunities for wading and boating at least until later today. Refer to the TVA website from the links below to plan your day.
This may be a very good lake fishing day thanks to overcast conditions. Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and other game fish will be active in shallow water. Swimming nymphs, streamers and top water flies will work for you.
We have experienced another very wet year so far. June however, has been dryer than normal. Rainfall at the Knoxville Airport has amounted to 1.15 inches so far this month, compared to normal of 3.23 inches. Last year, during the period we got 6.87 inches of rain.
This dry spell will end after today.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
