Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:55 am, the temperature is 49.8 degrees.
This is going to be another beautiful day, sunny with a high in the mid-70 and a low tonight in the mid-50’s. Tomorrow will be almost identical. Cool air will move in Friday with a slight chance for rain. Expect a high temperature in the upper 50’s with a low in the high 30’s Friday night. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny and cool with a high in the 60’s.
Little River is flowing at 232 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.13 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 85 cfs. The water temperature is 57.2 degrees this morning.
All streams in the Smokies that have USGS gauge sites are flowing higher than normal, but at good fishable levels. Water temperatures are very good today.
Nymph rigs will work well. Dry flies may produce too. We will enjoy ideal fishing conditions in the Smoky Mountains today and tomorrow.
Lowland rivers are flowing well above normal. I glanced at Little River yesterday and it looked perfect. Streamers and nymphs will probably work best though you might want to try top water flies for smallmouth bass and other lowland river species. Fishing for trout in the stocked lowland rivers is very good. The conditions are ideal.
There are a few tailwater wade fishing opportunities today in east and middle Tennessee. TVA will be generating at the local dams. Visit the TVA website from the links below to see what your options are.
Lake fishing on some lakes will be fair to good today. The wind is supposed to be calm. It will be sunny so go early or late when the sun is off the water. Streamers and swimming nymphs will work. Top water flies may produce for you too.
Get out and enjoy this beautiful weather and colorful landscape. This week is Fall at its best. If you enjoy camping, and do not mind cool temperatures, now is the time to go. We are going to have some great fire sitting conditions this weekend.
Jack and I are remodeling and expanding the fly tying department. We bought the materials yesterday and they will be delivered today. He and I will have to get the materials to the second floor in our store. I’m not looking forward to that.
We are removing a wall to welcome you to the new area. I will order new track lighting today. The new department will be about 1/3 larger than it is now, or close to 900 square feet when we are finished. That is a huge fly tying department in a fly shop. We hope to be finished by November 1st.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
