Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:54 am, the temperature is 48.7 degrees.
We will enjoy another beautiful day in the Smoky Mountains. It will be sunny with a high temperature in the mid to upper 70’s falling to the mid-50’s tonight. Tomorrow will be almost identical. Warm days and nights will continue through next week. Rain will arrive Wednesday.
Little River is flowing at 170 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.93 feet on the flow gauge. Median flow for this date is 146 cfs. The water temperature is 52.3 degrees this morning.
All streams in the mountains are flowing higher than normal and at very good fishing levels. Water temperatures continue to warm and that trend will continue through the week.
Fishing is good in the Smokies. Trout will take nymphs for sure and possibly dry flies too.
Lowland river fishing is improving as the water warms. Smallmouth bass and other lowland species will become more active as the water temperatures rise. Streamers and nymphs will work for you. There is a possibility the fish will respond to top water flies so give them a try. Fishing for trout in these rivers, where they are stocked will be good today and through the week.
TVA and the Corps of Engineers will be generating at many dams today but there are a few options out there for wade fishing and boating. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what is available for you today on the tailwaters in east and middle Tennessee.
Lake fishing conditions look good for fly anglers. Go early or late when the sun is off the water. Streamers or swimming nymphs will probably work best. Fly fishing with top water flies is something I could not resist trying. Cast a hair bug, foam floating fly or a popper to the banks and see what happens. Wind will not be a problem for you today.
Everyone is enjoying this weather. The amazing thing is, we may see continued warm temperatures through November 20th if the long term forecasters are correct. There is the potential for heavy rain Wednesday, and more rain expected Thursday. We could use some rain. Though the streams are flowing higher than normal, they are receding daily.
A good shot of water will be helpful at just the right time.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
