Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:52 am, the temperature is 41.4 degrees.
Cooler air has moved into the region. It will be sunny today, with a high temperature in the mid-60’s and falling to the upper 40’s tonight. No rain is predicted today. We have a chance for rain tomorrow morning, then it will clear in the afternoon. The high temperature will be in the low 60’s with a low tomorrow night in the mid-30’s.
Little River is flowing at 242 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.16 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 128 cfs. The water temperature is 52.7 degrees and falling.
All streams in the Smokies that have USGS gauge sites are flowing higher than normal. Most are at good fishing levels, on the high side of good.
Water temperatures are currently falling, though they are within the trout’s preferred range. Fishing will probably be best later, as the stream temps reverse the downward fall and begin to warm. Fish the low to mid elevations where the water is warmer. Nymphs will probably work best.
Lowland rivers are flowing at good levels. Smallmouth bass fishing may be slow, especially early, due to the cool water conditions. If you are fishing for trout in the stocked rivers, fishing will be good. Nymphs and streamers are good choices.
TVA and the Corps are not offering wading tailwater anglers many options today. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what is happening on your favorite tailwater.
This will be a cool but good day to be fishing on a lake in the area. Winds should be calm today. I would go early when the sun is off the water. Streamers and swimming nymphs will be your best options. Tomorrow will not be a good lake fishing day. It will be windy.
Fishing will probably be fair to good today. This will be a pretty day to be outside, fishing, boating, hiking or biking. Conditions tomorrow will be different, rain in the morning and wind in the afternoon.
Water temperatures will be falling early next week with a warming trend arriving by the weekend.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
