Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:53 am, the temperature is 31.8 degrees.
This weekend is going to be warmer, especially at night. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60’s with lows in the low 40’s each night. Today and tomorrow will be sunny. Sunday will be overcast. The chance for rain is low until Sunday night. Winds will be calm all weekend.
Little River is flowing at 149 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.85 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 170 cfs. The water temperature is 43.7 degrees this morning.
Water levels in the mountain streams are at or slightly above normal. Water temperatures are chilly this morning. We should see the temps rise over the weekend, mostly due to the warmer temperatures at night.
Fishing will improve some as the water warms. Nymphs will probably work best but don’t rule out trout feeding on top, especially Sunday.
Lowland river fishing for smallmouth bass will be slow though you may find some improvement by Sunday. If you are fishing for trout where they are stocked, fishing will be good over the next three days. Nymphs and streamers are good fly choices.
TVA and the Corps of Engineers will be generating at many dams today. Wade fishing options are limited on the tailwaters. If you are boating or floating with a guide, there are some opportunities so check the links below to see what they are. You may also find favorable wade fishing conditions at some dams. I did not check all of them.
You should not have to deal with wind today or this weekend on the lakes. I would fish early or late when the sun is off the water. Sunday looks to be the best lake fishing day as it should be overcast. I would use streamers or swimming nymphs fished fairly deep and retrieved slowly.
This is going to be a nice weekend to be outside. We should see a plenty of activity in town. We will definitely see more people next week, during the Thanksgiving holiday. It will probably rain next week. We may see snow in the high elevations next weekend. We will have to wait and see how that plays out.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
