Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:49 am, the temperature is 43.9 degrees.
It has been raining since about midnight. So far, the personal weather station I watch near our home is reporting .28 inches.
Rain will continue today and tonight. The high temperature will be in the middle 50’s falling to the low 30’s tonight. The rain will mix with snow tonight with snow expected tomorrow and a high temperature only reaching the low to middle 30’s.
Little River is flowing at 431 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.52 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 282 cfs. The water temperature is 41.5 degrees.
Streams in the Smokies are flowing at or slightly higher than normal. The streams are chilly with water temperatures ranging from 40 degrees to the upper 30’s. The streams may warm some today.
These are not ideal fishing conditions. You might catch a trout or two using weighted nymph rigs.
Lowland river fishing will be slow. You could catch trout where they are stocked but don’t expect much action. Nymph rigs will probably work best. Try egg patterns too.
TVA and the Corps will be churning water at most of the dams all day. As usual, I do not check all generation schedules in east or middle Tennessee so visit the TVA website from the links below and hopefully you can find angler friendly flows on a couple of tailwaters.
Will and I photographed fly tying items yesterday and added some to the online store. We set up a new category called UV Coatings. Right now, Loon UV lights and coatings are there and available for sale with Free Ground Shipping. Will is also adding Firehole slotted beads in more colors.
UV coatings replace head cement and epoxy and many fly tyers are using them. Once applied, you can cure the coatings using a quick shot from a UV light. Curing takes about 15 seconds. You can see part of the Loon selection of UV coatings and lights by CLICKING HERE.
Dave stained the new fly display last night. I can’t wait to see it this morning. It is either 12 or 16 feet long. I can’t remember which. It will hold larger streamers and flies.
We are preparing for Spring. It looks like that will not occur in the middle of February this year. But, you never know. Long term weather forecasts can’t be trusted.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
