Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:39 am, the temperature is 72.1 degrees.
This is going to be a nasty day. Showers and thunderstorms are moving into the area. Rainfall may be heavy and one to two inches of rain is expected before clearing tonight. It may be windy today. Temperatures will fall to the middle 50’s later today and into the middle 30’s tonight. We are under a flash flood watch. We are also under a severe thunderstorm watch.
It will be sunny tomorrow with a high temperature in the low 60’s.
Little River is flowing at 1,260 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 3.66 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 325 cfs. The water temperature is 54.3 degrees this morning.
All streams in the Smokies are flowing considerably higher than normal. With storms moving in, heavy rain, and being under a flash flood watch and severe thunderstorm watch, this is not a good day to be fishing in the mountains.
Lowland rivers are flowing high. They will likely be flowing higher later today. Planning to fish on a lowland river is probably not a good idea.
TVA and the Corps of Engineers appear to be holding back water at many tributary dams to avoid flooding downstream. There are breaks in the generation schedules at many. You may have some tailwater fishing options today. Streams entering the tailwaters could be muddy, staining the tailwaters in some areas. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what is going on at your favorite tailwater.
I am looking at the weather radar. A huge band of thunderstorms is moving in from the southwest. So far it is missing us but I hear the wind picking up right now. It won’t be long unless we get lucky.
I think this may be a good fly tying day. In my case, this will be a good day to work.
I’ve been a little “jumpy” at work. I don’t remember this happening before until the last few days. I’m working in the photography studio, with three large flash units pointed in my direction. There is a lot of static electricity in the air. Sometimes, when I touch the camera on the tripod, all the flash units fire unexpectedly. I think the problems is, the strobes are hard wired to the camera. I may switch to wireless today and see what happens.
I am photographing fly tying materials and tools for the online store. Will is writing the text and doing a great job. I’ve been struggling with glare on the photos of scissors. Now I have it figured out, but I will need to re-shoot some of the scissors we have on the store now so they will look much better.
I am working from a list of about 50 new items to add. There are several hundred more.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
