Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:44 am, the temperature is 40.1 degrees.
We will enjoy warm temperatures for several days. No rain is predicted until Wednesday night. It will be sunny each day until Thursday. Highs will be in the 70’s with lows in the upper 40’s to the middle 50’s Wednesday night. We have a fairly low chance for rain through the weekend after Wednesday.
Little River is flowing at 549 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.70 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 353 cfs. The water temperature is 48.7 degrees.
Water levels have receded and that will continue. They are still flowing higher than normal and a little higher than some anglers prefer. The water levels are improving every day. We will see water temperatures rise over the next few days, further improving fishing.
Fish the lower elevations today where the water is warmer. Wait a while to give the water time to warm today. Nymphs and wet flies will work. Dry flies may too. Dry fly fishing will get better as the water warms further. Aquatic insect activity will be good. You will see many species on the water.
Lowland rivers are flowing fairly high but improving every day. Fishing will be fair to good where trout are stocked.
TVA and the Corps continue to lower the lakes to create more water storage capacity. They will be generating at every dam I checked this morning. And, they are sluicing or even spilling at some dams. You may find a tailwater fishing option if you check all dams. From what I saw this morning, there are none.
We were closed yesterday for Easter and we stayed home. Evidently, there were many visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park yesterday.
I found an interesting story about an old tunnel on Clingmans Dome Road on the WBIR website. You can read it by CLICKING HERE.
The tunnel was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) on the 1930’s. I’ve driven over it many times but never knew it existed. It is referred to as a “mule train tunnel”.
Clingmans Dome re-opened this weekend after being closed for the Winter.
Will and I will be busy this week. We have many orders arriving for the fly tying department, probably four or five. We will be re-ordering immediately, to keep materials and tools coming in constantly.
We have been added more materials and tools to the online store and that will continue until the job is done. I’ve been shooting the photos and Will is writing the text and putting the items online.
We started this project almost a year ago, then halted the progress until we developed new systems to improve fulfillment to almost 100%. Actually our fulfillment rate is 99.8% since late August. I update those numbers every day. We ship fly tying orders to as far away as Oregon and a close as Knoxville. Shipping is free. Customers like that.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
