Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:46 am, the temperature is 45.7 degrees.
Most roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park have re-opened, including the Cades Cove Loop Road, Cherokee Orchard Road and US 441 (Newfound Gap Road). Some roads in the Park were closed Thursday due to downed trees and strong wind.
It will be overcast today with a high temperature in the low to middle 50’s and a high chance for showers. Showers are likely tonight with a low in the upper 40’s. It will be cloudy early tomorrow and partly cloudy later. The high temperature will be in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
There is a chance for snow in the highest elevations. Rain and snow are likely at Mount LeConte today, with a high temperature in the upper 30’s. Expect rain and a high in the upper 40’s at Newfound Gap.
Little River is flowing at 114 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.69 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 97 cfs. The water temperature is 53.4 degrees at the low elevation USGS gauge site near Townsend.
Stream levels rose slightly yesterday and some are slowly rising now. Heavy rain is not expected today so water levels should be fine in most streams. Water temperatures are good in the low to middle elevations.
I would plan on using weighted nymph rigs. This is a good nymphing day.
Lowland rivers are flowing slightly higher than normal and some are rising. Smallmouth bass may be fairly active. Try streamers or nymphs. Trout, where they are stocked in these rivers will be actively feeding. Nymphs, streamers and egg patterns are good fly choices.
There are breaks in the generation schedules at some dams today. Check the TVA website from the links below to see what tailwater wade or boat fishing options you have.
This may be a fair lake fishing day. It will be overcast which is beneficial. It could be breezy at times. Winds are predicted to be out of the southwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour. You will probably get wet. The chance for rain is 80%. Cast streamers or swimming nymphs to the banks and let them sink during a slow retrieve if you decide to go.
Cooler temperatures are in the forecast later next week. We may get our first Fall freeze in the valley next weekend. That will be a nice change.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
