Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:40 am, the temperature is 33.1 degrees.
Today and tomorrows weather will be identical, sunny with a high temperature in the low 70’s, dropping to the upper 40’s at night. Thursday (Veterans Day) will be cooler with a high in the middle 60’s with a high chance for rain both day and night.
Little River is flowing at 103 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.64 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 152 cfs. The water temperature is 46.9 degrees this morning.
Most streams in the Smokies are flowing near normal, though Little River is flowing lower. Water temperatures are cold this morning, while being warmer in the lower elevations.
Fishing will be best later today after the water has warmed. Fish the low elevations where the water is warmer. With the low and very clear water conditions we have now, staying hidden from the trout is essential to your success. Don’t let them see you and you will catch more.
Nymphs will probably work best today.
Lowland rivers are flowing fairly low to low. Smallmouth bass fishing will probably be slow, especially early today. Trout fishing in the stocked in the lowland rivers will be good, especially later. Streamers, nymphs and egg patterns will work for you.
TVA and the Corps will be generating at most dams in the area today. I did see a break in the generation at Center Hill Dam. They may be sluicing as that may not be mentioned by the Corps at Center Hill Dam. If you are boating, you will have more tailwater fishing options. Visit the TVA website from the links below to hopefully find a reasonable flow schedule on your favorite tailwater.
This may be a fair lake fishing day. Winds will be calm and it will be warmer than it has been lately. This will be a sunny day which hardly ever works out well for me, fishing with flies in the lakes. My best guess is, fish weighted streamers, cast to the banks, and use a slow retrieve to get them down deep. That is what I would try.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
