Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:45 am, the temperature is 71.4 degrees.
We are under a wind advisory today with a high wind warning in the Smoky Mountains. Rain and thunderstorms will move through the area. The high temperature will be what it is now. Rainfall may amount to three quarters of an inch.
Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Road) from Gatlinburg to Cherokee is closed due to the expected high winds.
It will be cold tonight, with a low in the high 20’s. Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the low 50’s.
Little River is flowing at 93.8 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.60 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 224 cfs. The water temperature is 48.6 degrees and rising quickly.
So far, there has been no change in stream flows in the Smokies. Water temperatures are rising in all streams. They are all flowing low for now.
This is not a good day to be fishing in the mountains.
Lowland rivers are flowing low and warmer. Fishing for smallmouth bass may be fair today. Try nymphs and streamers. Stocked trout may be very active due to the warmer water temperatures. Again, with the predicted winds, fishing on the lowland rivers may not be a good idea.
There are breaks in the generation at several dams planned today. Fishing on your favorite trout tailwater may be an option. Check the TVA website to see what is planned. You may be surprised.
Fishing on a lake will be totally out of the question.
We will be at the shop today, waiting for you. This should be a great shopping day, an excellent fly tying day, and a less than great fishing day.
Will and I are going to be busy receiving fly tying shipments and ordering more materials and tools. We placed orders from two of our suppliers twice this week.
Have a good one and thank you for being here with us.
