Lowland river fishing is not an option today due to high water.
TVA and the Corps are taking advantage of our wet beginning of the year by generating power at most dams today. The Watauga tailwater might be an option for you this afternoon. You may find more by visiting the TVA website from the links below.
Fly fishing opportunities have been rare so far this year in East Tennessee. We ended last year on a high note. It was very warm. Trout were active and enjoying warm water temperatures. Since then, we have endured snow, wind, rain, loss off power and closed roads.
We had a busy weekend at the shop. A whole lot of anglers wanted to get out of the house and many showed up at our store and probably other fly shops. Yesterday was a wet nasty Sunday, but that didn’t stop the flow of people at all. Everyone is thinking about the arrival of Spring fishing which may not be that far off.
I talked to and helped a large number of fly tyers this weekend. The fly tying department has been extremely busy so far this year. I have talked to a lot of people who are just getting started tying flies. They are learning by watching YouTube. They are asking us for advice. They are enthusiastic. They are fun to be with.
If you are a college football fan, tonight will be a great night and I’m looking forward to the game. The Bulldogs and the Tide will meet again for the national championship. I’m taking a break from my diet. Tonight, Paula and I are having pizza at my request. I hope she didn’t forget.
Have a great day and thank you for being here with us.
