Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:41 am, the temperature is 39 degrees.
It will be mostly cloudy today, with a chance for rain and a high temperature in the low 50’s. Rain tonight will change to light snow after midnight as temperatures plunge to the low single digits. The National Weather Service is predicting the low tonight to be around 3 degrees.
Tomorrow will be cold, with a high around 9 degrees. It will be windy, causing wind chill factors between -9 to -16. The low temperature tomorrow night is predicted to be 2 degrees. We are under a wind chill warning Friday and Saturday.
Christmas Day will be sunny with a high temperature in the 20’s during the day, falling to around 12 degrees overnight.
The shop will be open today from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. We plan to be open at the shop Friday from 9 am until 6 pm, and on Saturday from 9 am until noon. That may change due to road conditions and possible power outages.
Little River is flowing at 202 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.02 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 258 cfs. The water temperature is 42.4 degrees this morning.
Water temperatures will not rise much today. Fishing will be slow in most streams. If you go, weighted nymphs or streamers will likely work best for you.
You might catch stocked trout in the low elevation streams today. Weighted nymphs will likely work best.
Fishing for smallmouth bass will be slow in the lowland rivers.
TVA and the Corps are planning to generate at most dams throughout the day. There may be some exceptions so check the TVA website yourself to see if you have some tailwater fishing options.
After today, and through the weekend, fishing will be dangerous due to the cold temperatures.
The frigid arctic air will move out next week. It will be unseasonably warm late next week and into the weekend. High temperatures should be in the 60’s, Friday through Sunday. It will be warm at night, in the 40’s to low 50’s.
