Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:51 am, the temperature is 3.4 degrees.
It will be cold today with a high temperature around 19 degrees and wind chill values between --7 and -19. The low temperature tonight will be around 9 degrees. Christmas day will be warmer with a high around 30 degrees, dropping to the low teens overnight.
Little River is flowing at 151 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 1.84 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 297 cfs. The water temperature is 32 degrees.
Going fishing under these conditions is dangerous.
I know two guys who are planning to fish for stocked trout in Gatlinburg today. I am not one of them.
Some roads in the Park are closed, including Little River Road and Newfound Gap Road. Newfound Gap Road will be re-evaluated today and may open. Laurel Creek Road, Cades Cove Loop Road and Lower Tremont Road are open but watch for snow and ice.
I don’t think the temperature yesterday exceeded 9 degrees. From what I read, TVA had ordered “rolling blackouts” yesterday to conserve energy. We experienced an outage at the shop and our home yesterday. The outage at the shop lasted about 45 minutes.
The shop will be open today between 9:00 am and noon unless we have another power outage or other unforeseen problem. We will be closed tomorrow and I will not be writing a fishing report.
Have a great Christmas weekend and thank you for being here with us.
