Welcome to the Fishing Report from Townsend, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. At 4:35 am, the temperature is 49 degrees.
Rain will move into the area this morning. We may get up to a quarter of an inch today. The high temperature will be in the low 50’s. Rain will continue tonight, with a low in the middle 30’s. Colder air will arrive by tomorrow with more rain expected, especially in the morning hours. The high temperature will be in the low 40’s. Rain will continue to fall Thursday and through the night.
Little River is flowing at 342 cubic feet per second (cfs) or 2.38 feet on the gauge. Median flow for this date is 282 cfs. The water temperature is 47.8 degrees this morning.
If you go fishing in the mountains today, be prepared for wet conditions and the possibility of rising water later. The streams have receded to near normal right now. The water has warmed some so trout may be active. Fish in the low elevations where the water is warmer. Weighted nymphs and streamers are good choices.
Fishing for stocked trout in the low elevation rivers will be fair and possibly good. Weighted nymphs or nymph rigs will likely work best for you. Streamers may produce as well.
TVA and the Corps will be generating or sluicing all day at most of their dams. I saw some breaks in the schedules at Dale Hollow and Chatuge dams. There may be others. Refer to the TVA website from the links below to see what is going on at your favorite tailwater.
Laurel Creek Road is closed from the Townsend “Y” to Cades Cove due to a rock slide. Crews are working to clear the road. When the road reopens, you will be notified on the Park’s Road Twitter Page by CLICKING HERE.
